What Is E-Waste?

Electronic waste, or e-waste, is a term for electronic products that have become unwanted, non-working or obsolete, and have essentially reached the end of their useful life. Because technology advances at such a high rate, many electronic devices become “trash” after a few short years of use. In fact, whole categories of old electronic items contribute to e-waste such as VCRs being replaced by DVD players, and DVD players being replaced by blu-ray players. E-waste is created from anything electronic: computers, TVs, monitors, cell phones, PDAs, VCRs, CD players, fax machines, printers, etc.

Obsolete electronic devices are rapidly filling the landfills of the globe. Most electronics that are improperly thrown away contain some form of harmful materials such as beryllium, cadmium, mercury and lead. These materials might be trace elements, but when added up in volume, the threat to the environment is significant. Besides adding harmful elements to the environment, improper disposal of e-waste is a recycling opportunity lost. Almost all electronic waste contains some form of recyclable material, including plastic, glass and metals.

TAMBO Recycling Programme

At Tambo (Agaston Mobile Pvt. Ltd.), we understand that our responsibility doesn't end at selling you, our products. We at Tambo have adopted eco-friendly innovations and practices and are working towards safe disposal of electronic waste. Tambo is integrating multiple innovations into its business processes for efficient use of resources to contribute to the noble cause of environment preservation for the greater good of the society at large. This thought is supported by our policy, as well the legislation passed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (called E-waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2016). Tambo will seek shared responsibility and cooperation from customers in reducing the environmental impact of their products. The company will comply with all the applicable laws related to e-waste management Rules 2016 (as Amended).

As part of the e-waste recycling initiative, Tambo has authorized an e-waste company - Attero Recycling Private Limited - to collect, dismantle and dispose e-waste. Attero's vision is to look at e-waste not just as waste, but as an important resource that can be made useful – instead of shunning it as a social and environmental burden with their fully automated facility for e-waste recycling.

As part of this partnership with Attero, the company will ensure environmentally sound management of electronics that have reached their end of life phase. Attero has obtained all the necessary authorizations from the appropriate governmental agencies for their processing facilities. Attero ensures proper recycling and disposal of e-waste. This helps us protect the environment from any hazardous consequences, which would be otherwise caused by the inappropriate waste management of e-waste.
